I got this book, hoping it would be a stellar story, and it started off great. However, the one thing I can't stand is an author's need to cut up a nice story into pay as you go pieces. Nice plot line, couple cute twists, but be prepared for cliff hanger end.Product details

This book is a collection of 3 parts in a continuing series. I've never read a book put together the way this is, but I love it. Instead of one love story at a time, it is multiple love stories being "lived" out with several characters at once. Not your typical format of each character getting their own book, with different time lines, but more like a true adventure in real time with all the characters at once. The book takes several points of view based on the situation. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
I love Called by the Bear volume one it’s a book made up of 3 short continuous stories. The overall book is well written however I found a few mistakes I believe were missed by a proof reader. V. Vaughn did an outstanding job of creating uniquely developed characters. Through her imagination she has brought brave and determined women together with hot and sexy men, who are Werebears.
In these short stories you meet Carly and Sierra. Both women are tattoo artists not willing to put up with crap from any man. Each girl dreams of their own big, hot and sexy man. As their dreams become more frequent, so do their overwhelming needs to fine these men. Both women quit their jobs and set out on the road to find these men who haunt their dreams with hot and steamy sex. Each woman provides the other with clues as to where they are heading. Along their journey they meet two other brave women, Lily and Taylor, who also have dreams of men of their own, but just weren’t ready to find these men until they meet Carly and Sierra.
Brady, the Alpha of the La Roux Clan, and his best friend Kyle are big, muscled and sexy, and available werebears. They both work at Bear Mountain Tree Farm owned by the clan and only want to love their mate. When they meet sparks fly and passion erupts, but a situation test the boundaries and laws between the clan. Each woman has to be brave enough and trust enough in their love for each of their werebear for these relationships to work.
Overall each part tantalizes you enough to want to read each individual book or by reading volume 1 parts 1-3. I will follow along to bring this exhilarating adventure to its completion.
Then gets weird. I got about 2/3 way into the story and knew I would skim the rest and let the series go. It's a lot of bed-hopping as the mates they dream about are not necessarily the right ones. So much for the soul-mate being called to them. The back and forth is dramatic but it also detracts from her story and lessens the intensity the call in their dreams is supposed to be.
So enjoyed this three book read. The women in the story came from all walks of life with nothing in common but having dreams about mean that shift into bears.
Book 1 introduces you to Carly, Sierra, Annie, Brady and Keith. These will be pivotal characters throughout all of the books with Carly and Brady being the dual Alpha pair.
Lets just say that when the Le Roux sent out the call for mates they had no idea what they would receive.
All three books were entertaining and pretty well scripted for the most part. To be honest I craved more information on Sierra and Keith with the villain Victor in the background but know the stories are a build up around Carly and Brady did not detract from my overall enjoyment.
This author has continued the books giving more information of the original and introducing new character in Volume 2 and 3 which I hope to read soon.
This book started out like most other shifter books and I liked it a lot. In fact the first "book" to the story was great fun with not only an alpha male but also an alpha female. It laid the groundwork for the plot in the rest of the books with rival clans trying to claim the territory of our main characters. But then in the second and third parts the secondary characters started behaving badly. For instance one of the characters cheats on her "mate" with the alpha from a rival clan and although much of it on her part is involuntary, she starts to enjoy it and then it becomes a full blown affair. I didn't like that and it really broker down the unwritten rule of one mate to a person. Also there is quite a lot of sex in this book - and some is alright but when it gets to be pages and pages then it begins to take away from the storyline. So while it started off okay, I'm not sure it deserves more than a couple of stars. I will not be reading anything else by this author.
Short and to the point. The book is a great story, one that I will actually read again. I loved how the author blended the characters together and how their story flowed. I am always a fan of a hunky shifter finding his true mate. I will say that I have to give it a low rating for only one reason...the cost. I don't know how much of the delivery of the books is the author's choice and how much is , but I have to say that the story was no worth the high cost of the rest of the books in the series. I absolutely hate reading through a book just to find that I will be left hanging unless I buy the next book. I pay for Unlimited and must say that there are books by so many authors, in the same genre, that are comparable as far as story line, writing style and ability, but are either free with KU or offered up for .99 for each. In fact, to be honest, I now look hard at the book and investigate to see if it is a series that will cost to finish. While I enjoyed this first book in the series for free, I kind of felt like I was cheated out of the rest of the story. First because it is not available to KU, second because the price of $4.99 for a digital book is just a bit more than I am willing to pay.
I feel it would be a pretty good read IF it was not broken up into mini books. I hate that you get into the story only to find you have to keep buying additional books to finish the storyline with the initial characters. I don't think the price matches what you are buying. It seems like short stories that should not cost so much!
